Customs Regulations for Romania:

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ENTRY

  • Passport (copy including page with stamp of entry into Romania)
  • Customer visa (copy)
  • Letter of job transfer from employer
  • Work contract from employer in Romania indicating starting date and period of contract
  • Certificate of Residence in Romania
  • Copy of Registration of the Romanian employer at the Romanian Chamber of Commerce or copy of the home rental agreement
  • Copy of fiscal code of Customer’s employer
  • Inventory (in Romanian, detailed, valued, dated and signed by the Customer)
  • The following items must be detailed:
    • Jewelry, precious metals and antiques dated before 1945
    • Electrical items (indicate serial numbers)
  • Invoices and photos (2 copies) of any valuable items (paintings, jewelry, TV, antiques, etc.)
  • Certificate stating that goods are for personal use and will not be resold or used for commercial purpose
  • Insurance certificate (copy)
  • Romanian Residence I.D.

CUSTOMS REGULATIONS

  • Customer’s presence is required upon arrival of their belongings
  • Customer must be in Romania during the clearance process
  • Customer should also be present for the Customs process

PROHIBITED ITEMS
In Romania, some articles may not be imported in a customer’s baggage whatsoever. These items include, but may not be limited to:

  • Meat and milk products from non-EU countries (limited amounts allowed from Andorra, Croatia, the Færøer Islands, Greenland, Iceland and specific products from other countries)
  • Protected animal species and products made from them as listed by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)
    • Ivory, tortoise shell, coral, reptile skin, wood from Amazonian forests

RESTRICTED/DUTIABLE ITEMS
Some articles may have restricted quantities or require special authorization/ payments of duties and taxes to clear customs in Romania. These items include, but are not limited to:

  • Meat, milk and dairy products coming from Croatia, Færøer Islands, Greenland and Iceland (maximum of 10 kg)
  • Powdered milk for babies, children’s food and special medical food for human or pets (must be brand packaged food with original seal)
    • Not exceeding 10 kg if from Croatia, Færøer Islands, Greenland and Iceland
    • Not exceeding 2 kg if from other countries
  • Fish (must be disemboweled, cannot exceed a weight of 20 kg)
  • Currency (declarable for everyone traveling outside the EU when the amount exceeds teneuro or currency equivalent)
  • Coats, fur and leather shoes made of protected animals (require special authorization)

MOTOR VEHICLE REGULATIONS
In Romania, the following rules apply to importing motor vehicles:

  • Customer must be present for Custom’s clearance
  • Vehicles are subject to duties and value added tax

For importation, you will need the following documents:

  • Sales invoice (displaying price paid, date, place of purchase and conditions of delivery)
  • Transportation invoice (showing cost of transport – if applicable)
  • Documents displaying Customer’s name as well as the engine and chassis number of the vehicle (original)

PETS AND ANIMAL REGULATIONS
When importing a petto Romania, they will need to have the following documentation:

  • A health certificate
  • Rabies vaccination
  • Pets need to be identifiable (tattoo or and ID chip)

DUTY AND TAX RATE PERCENTAGE
Passengers arriving with goods purchased in the EU that are for personal use are free of import:

  • Tobacco products for passengers 17 and older:
    • 800 cigarettes
    • 400 cigarillos (maximum 3g each)
    • 200 cigars
    • 1 kg smoking tobacco
  • Alcoholic beverages, for passengers 17 and older:
    • 10 litres of spirits over 22 percent volume
    • 20 litres of alcoholic beverages less than 22 percent
    • 90 litres of wine (no more than 60 litres of sparkling wine)
    • 110 litres of beer

Free import to passengers arriving from non-EU member states (including the Canary Islands, Channel Islands and other similar territories):

  • Tobacco products for passengers 17 and older:
    • 200 cigarettes or
    • 100 cigarillos (maximum 3g each) or
    • 50 cigars or
    • 250g of smoking tobacco or
    • Proportional assortment
  • Alcoholic beverages, for passengers 17 and older:
    • 1 litre of spirits over 22 percent volume or
    • Non-denatured ethyl alcohol with more than 80 percent volume or
    • 2 litres of spirits or aperitifs made of wine or similar beverages less than 22 percent volume or sparkling wines or liqueur wines or
    • A proportional mix of these products and in addition
    • 4 litres still wine and
    • 16 litres of beer/li>
  • Other goods totaling up to 430 euro
